2010-2011 Boys Basketball Regional Champions

The 2010-2011 Forest Park Boys Basketball Team was one that people knew would have success, but they exceded their expectations. The team was very well-rounded with different players that complimented each other's playing styles. The roster consisted of the following:

  • Miles Leonard #34
  • Jake Meyer #22
  • Ben Braunecker #24
  • Lynk Kordes #52
  • Noah Klem #14
  • Grant Welp #12
  • Caleb Williams #44
  • Zach Hulsman #20
  • Jesse Begle #40
  • Kyle Wilgus #32
  • Nathan Bromm #30
  • Matt Messmer #10

These guys had many accomplishments as a team and as individuals including winning secational, regionals, and advancing to semi-state. They were projected to be one of the top teams to beat since the beginning of the year. Since the lineups were so talented there was never a time where they had any beliefs that they were going to lose. The starting lineup changed, often based on who the Rangers played. Nathan Bromm and Grant Welp were known to be the main leaders on this outsanding team. Nathan Bromm led most major statistics, but he was surrounded by many gifted athletes that helped the team excel. They were very competitive and took everything to the extreme. Coach Litherland stated that every practice was competitive and that this was the best team that he has been around from talent to character and everything in between. This allowed the team to be very successful. They were all very comfortable with each other. The constant rotation of players helped the team stay healthy and created great team chemisty, allowing them to cruise to a perfect regular season, winning most of their games easily, but at some points they were put to the test. This group obviously had immense talent, but they could not have ascended to the level of greatness that they did without the coaches. The coaching staff consisted of:

  • Nate Hawkins- Head Coach
  • Phil Winkler- Assistant Coach
  • Jeff Litherland-Junior Varsity Coach
  • Aaron Sickbert- Freshman Coach

In sectionals, the team had to defeat Tell City and North Posey to defend their past two titles and three-peat as sectional champions. In regionals the undefeated Rangers had to overcome tough teams in Covenant Christian and Eastern Greene in close, hard fought games to recieve the regional title. The team eventually lost to Park Tudor (23-2), who was led by Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell, in the Semi-State Championship. This was a rivalry game due to the year before. The two fan bases went absolutely crazy during the game. This team could not have made the amazing run to semi-state if it was not for an incredible shot by Nathan Bromm to beat North Posey in Sectionals which was the most memorable event of the season according to players and coaches. Many believe the game against the North Posey Vikings was the toughest and hard fought game of the season.
