KEN JOCHEM WINS STATE WELDING CHAMPIONSHIP 

The students competed against 25 state qualifiers throughout the state using the GTAW, 

GMAW, and SMAW welding processes and oxy-acetylene cutting to construct a project from 

blueprints.  Also included in the competition was a 100 question welding-related written test. 

Jochem received a $10,000 scholarship to Ohio Technical College; a $2,500 scholarship 

to Vincennes University; and a $7,500 scholarship to Lincoln Tech.  Jochem also received a 

Lincoln redi-pack, along with other welding-related supplies and equipment.  Second and Third 

place finishers Eli Loveland and Travis Jacob received $7,500 and $5,000 scholarships 

respectively to Ohio Technical College; and $5,000 and $2,500 scholarships respectively from 

Lincoln Tech, along with other welding-related supplies and equipment. 

Jochem will advance to national competition in Louisville, Kentucky on June 20-24.  He 

is the 17th state welding champion from Pike Central in the past thirty years and will attempt to 

become the third national champion from the Pike Central program. 

Jochem is the son of Mark and Yvonne Jochem of Ferdinand.
