Reading and Writing Curriculum
At Southeast Dubois County School Corporation, we are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction across all grade levels.
Reading Instruction

Grades K–2 and 6–8: Ready Reading by Curriculum Associates

Grades 3–5: Magnetic Reading by Curriculum Associates

Grades K–8: Instruction is supported by the Smekens Comprehension Playbook and a locally developed curriculum aligned to the Indiana Academic Standards.

Science of Reading-Aligned Instruction: All K–8 classrooms utilize the University of Florida Literacy Institute’s (UFLI) Foundations Toolbox for systematic instruction in word recognition and language comprehension.
Writing Instruction

Students at Ferdinand Elementary, Pine Ridge Elementary, and Cedar Crest Intermediate use the Smekens Writer’s Workshop model, supplemented with locally developed writing resources aligned to the Indiana Academic Standards.
Remediation & Intervention

Targeted supports include Heggerty Phonemic Awareness and Orton-Gillingham-based instruction.

In addition, students benefit from daily small-group, differentiated instruction tailored by classroom teachers to meet individual learning needs.
