Reading Curriculum

The adopted reading curriculum for Grades K-4 at Southeast Dubois County School Corporation is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's Into Reading.  Grades 5-6 utilize Smeken's Education Comprehension Playbook in addition to a locally developed curriculum based on the Indiana Academic Standards. 

All grade levels at Ferdinand Elementary, Pine Ridge Elementary, and Cedar Crest Intermediate utilize Smeken's Writer's Workshop for writing curriculum in addition to locally developed resources aligned to the Indiana Academic Standards.  

Remedial programs in SED elementary and intermediate schools include Heggerty Phonics, Orton-Gillingham Lessons, and Lexia Learning.  Students also have opportunities to receive small-group differentiated instruction designed by classroom teachers.
